Aishwarya’s dress code

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a clothes horse. The former Miss World has been setting trends since the start of her career in Bollywood.

Even her detractors agree that though she was at the receiving end of some nasty barbs for her wardrobe blunders when she appeared on the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival, her fan following remains intact. And she has had Indian women across the globe borrowing styles from her personal and film wardrobes.

Taking this aspect into account, film-maker Vipul Shah has given Aishwarya an extensive fashion line in his film Action Replayy which releases this Friday. Says Vipul, "When you define beauty, the first name that comes to mind is that of Aishwarya. She looks equally stunning in western and traditional outfits.'' The film-maker says his cool romantic comedy, set in 70s offered him scope to dress his leading lady in a variety of styles.
Manish Malhotra actually spent months studying the various retro/contemporary designs to give Aishwarya the perfect look for the various situations in Action Replayy. And it now turns out that Ash's wardrobe in the film has become the talking point.

Vipul says, "There will be many women across the globe who will want to ape her style. Not only is she looking hip and cool in the western outfits, even her look in the Holi song is stunning."

Aishwarya has been getting compliments galore for her bright yellow dress in the song Nakhre. The song Nakhre captures the essence of this romantic comedy. And it was felt that a bright colour would suit the robust mood of the song. In other words, a lot of thought has gone into the dress code.

Chaan Ke Mohalla, the holi song in Action Replayy, where Aishwarya is wearing a traditional salwar-kurta, is set in the 70s and it's the first time when Aditya Roy Kapur sees her. Incidentally a Holi song is a must with Vipul. His films Waqt — The Race Against Times, Namastey London, Singh is Kingg and now Action Replayy, all have a Holi song sequence.

Aishwarya Rai's costumes are Deepavali favourites in Malaysia

Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai's traditional outfits in the film Raavanan are finding many takers in Malaysia with Deepavali shopping at it's peak.

The original outfits, long-sleeved salwar kameez (tunic) and chudidar pants, were created by Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee and imitations have flooded the shops here with many shopper's asking for the Aishwarya masakali.

The suits have been in the market since early this year after the release of the movie but sales have peaked as Deepavali approaches, reported New Straits Time.

The salwar kameez also comes with transparent sleeves and multi-coloured dupattas (stoles) to suit the tastes of the individual shoppers.

Malaysia is home to 2.1 million ethnic Indians, a bulk of them are from Tamil Nadu and fans of Tamils films and film stars.

The Hindi version of the film Raavan failed to create magic at the box office, but Raavanan, in Tamil, became an instant hit in Malaysia.

Harekrishna Silk's managing director Thiyananthan Bathumalai said most of the masakali suits in the market today were inspired by movie stars.

"For example, we now have Robo masakali, which was inspired from the movie Enthiran (in which Aishwarya acted) and Raavan masakali, which was inspired by Raavan," he said.

"Every year, we have customers asking for a particular sari or suit that was worn by an actress in a movie. This year, everyone is asking for masakali suits which were worn by Aishwarya Rai," he added.

Akshay And Ash – Dharmendra And Hema Malini Of The Modern Age?

Barring an odd 'Khakee' where Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai were not conventionally paired opposite each other, the two actors have never shared screen space together. In fact it is surprising that none of the existing film makers ever thought of bringing the two together. This is the reason why it is reason to celebrate with Vipul Shah making it possible with 'Action Replayy'.

Since off screen, Akshay is known for being pretty rooted and grounded while Ash is a classic beauty with a Diva image to boast, was it really convincing for Vipul since he had to handle complete opposites on the sets?

"See that's the entire point", says Vipul who has earlier worked with Akshay in 'Aankhen', 'Waqt', 'Namastey London' and 'Singh Is Kinng', "The words that you have used to describe Ash – classic beauty – are absolutely right. For 'Action Replayy', I indeed wanted someone who boasted of classic beauty."

No wonder, Vipul's reference point was Hema Malini, who has lived on to be a dream girl for decades.

"Since the film is set in the 70s, if I had to think of someone who was a classical beauty in the era gone by, it had to be Hema Malini", reasons Vipul, "She was yesterday's dream girl, Ash is today's. Both have an Indian face and can look Western when required. It is so fantastic that I got what I needed."

Now all one hopes is that audience too get what they want. After all one expects some real conventional romance between Akshay and Ash this time around, especially due to the fact that in 'Khakee', it turned out to be an anti climax after all.

Laughs Vipul, "Don't worry on that aspect. In fact within our team, we have always maintained that Akshay is today's Dharmendra. Now when Ash is being seen opposite him, we all believe that it is back to seeing a Dharam-Hema pairing. Nothing can beat that."

Well, one looks forward to audience sharing a similar sentiment as well once the film hits the screens on 5th November.

Aishwarya and Kareena fighting this Diwali

She is the most beautiful women alive in Bollywood and another has topped the power list of Bollywood damsels.

Folks, this Diwali there's a fight for supremacy as the top ladies of Bollywood glitterati will be battling it out for the crown of the Queen. Both Aishwarya and Kareena will be seen in this year's Diwali dhamakas 'Action Replayy' and 'Golmaal 3' respectively and people have started the speculations on who will emerge as the winner.

Well the opinion is fairly divided in the industry who is giving almost equal points to both the B-town lovelies Kareena and Aishwarya.

According to some it will be Aishwarya who will grab the crown which is still not occupied, whereas some believe Kareena will surpass everyone and will pose happily with the crown. The reasons being given for Kareena is her popularity as a brand and her top position in brand endorsements where she has  bagged major giants, she acted in the mega hit '3 Idiots' which became the biggest grosser of Bollywood last year.

Aishwarya on the other hand has the biggest hit of Bollywood history 'Robot' to her credit and being a senior and ex Miss world, Aishwarya can bank on her vast range of admirers around the globe.

Difficult to say who will be able to influence the audience the most but one thing is sure… This Diwali, Bollywood promises guaranteed entertainment where you have Vipul Shah's rom com 'Action Replayy' bringing the nostalgia of the swinging seventies back, whereas Rohit Shetty with his gang and the laughing gas is back with the third edition of the fun and masti 'Golmaal3'… Obviously the audience would love to watch both the film but folks, the question is who will be the first choice... Aishwarya or Kareena…? tell us as we all want to know…
