Bollywood star Zayed Khan's formula to staying ahead in India's competitive movie industry
|
It was the world of finance that gripped the attention of Zayed Khan, better known as the son of former Indian superstar Sanjay Khan.
However, after enrolling for a degree in Business, Zayed Khan's focus switched to studying film-making, then acting and not before long, he starred in a Bollywood Blockbuster beside reigning Indian megastar, Shah Rukh Khan.
Zayed Khan vividly recalls his childhood memories especially during play time, when his sister and friends would engage in role-playing but he was never allocated a leading role. While this did dampen his spirit in pursuing his career in movies, it did help that he was privileged to watch the actual shooting of movies frequently and that he said, "was like the most glamorous and entertaining thing to be on".
Constantly being surrounded by the industry's bigwigs, it definitely ignited a desire in him to be part of movies.
Zayed Khan's inadvertent big break came when he approached India's top choreographer Farah Khan to direct a script that he worked on but she had other plans designed for him. As Farah herself was looking at making her first feature film "Main Hoon Na" which means I'm Here for You, she ended up casting him alongside India's sweetheart Shah Rukh Khan.
Being cast in the award-winning movie, shot Zayed Khan to fame where he gained further recognition and success in the movie industry.
Intense competition is rife in India's movie industry and one of the greatest challenges that actors have to brave through. Zayed Khan's formula to staying glued to this industry is his undying passion to bring a character to life in his movies. Hence, it comes as no surprise that he feels chuffed when people still refer to him as 'Lucky', the character he played in "Main Hoon Na" as he believes that he has done justice to his role in the film.
Amid his frenzied filming schedule, Zayed Khan is currently in Istanbul shooting for his next film, Mission Istanbul, directed by Apoorva Lakhia. One that would deal with terrorism and action, Zayed Khan said this is one of those movies that he has been waiting for ages to star in.
